Chapter One: Introduction
1.1 Background of the Study
Rural markets play a vital role in the economic development of rural areas in Nigeria. In Mubi North LGA, Adamawa State, local markets are central to the livelihoods of many families. Radio, as an accessible and affordable medium, has become an essential tool for communicating market information such as pricing, demand and supply trends, and agricultural products. By providing farmers, traders, and consumers with up-to-date information, radio contributes to the efficiency and growth of rural market systems. This study examines the role of radio in strengthening rural market systems in Mubi North, focusing on how radio broadcasts support market efficiency and create opportunities for economic growth.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
Although radio is widely acknowledged as an important source of market information in rural areas, the specific impact of radio broadcasts on rural market systems in Mubi North remains insufficiently explored. There are gaps in understanding how radio programs influence market dynamics, particularly in terms of price transparency, product availability, and market access. This study will examine how radio broadcasts have contributed to strengthening rural market systems and whether they have improved the economic well-being of traders and consumers in Mubi North.
